ALBINO PEACOCK

Tangerine PeacockAnother popular selectively bred strain, with its warm colours of yellow to red. Use dry foods rich in natural carotenoids to bring out the fish's best colours. LABEOTROPHEUS TREWAVASAE
Labeotropheus TrewavasaeThe Trewavasae has a distinctive fleshy nose and underslung mouth. These adaptations allow it to graze with minimal effort on algae covered rocks. It is slender in shape compared to its close relative the Fuelleborni. It is hardy, very active and easy to keep, and is well suited to Malawi community aquariums. Grows to 12-15cm.
LABIDOCHROMIS ELECTRIC YELLOW
Labidochromis electric yellowOne of the most popular aquarium fish from Lake Malawi with its vivid yellow colour and black edged fins. A generally peaceful fish, ideal for a community aquarium of Malawi Cichlids. Grows to about 10-12cm (smaller in the wild). Both sexes are almost identical in colour, mature males have more pronounced black finnage. Use dry foods rich in natural carotenoids to bring out the fish's best colours.
MELANOCHROMIS MAINGANO
Blue PeacockFound around Maingano Island, both sexes of this lively species are blue-black with bright blue horizontal stripes. A very showy species for a single species tank or with other similar sized Malawi Cichlids. The species is now officially named as Melanochromis cyanoerhabdos, but usually is still referred to as Maingano. Grows to about 10cm.
MELANOCHROMIS VERMIVEROUS
Blue PeacockLike many Melanochromis, the Vermiverous is sexually dimorphic (males and females are differently coloured). Mature males are dark bodied with blue stripes, juveniles and females are pale with dark stripes. They are a hardy active species, best kept with other robust Malawi Cichlids of similar size. Grows to 12-15cm.
SCIAENOCHROMIS FRYERI ELECTRIC BLUE
Sciaenochromis Fryeri Electric BlueElectric Blue is an apt name for this very popular Cichlid. Males are a vivid blue, rivalling any marine fish. In the wild its diet is small fishes, but in captivity it will eat any good quality aquarium food. An undemanding and easy to keep species, grows to 13-15cm, sometimes larger.
CYPHOTILAPIA FRONTOSA BLUE MPIMBWE
Cyphotilapia Frontosa Blue MpimbweWith their distinctive appearance, Frontosa are a majestic looking fish with enduring popularity. In the wild it occurs around rocky areas usually at depths of 20-70 metres. It should be kept in a group of 5 or more in larger aquaria. A quiet, peaceful species, but it will prey upon small fish. May grow to 30-40cm, but usually smaller. The morph at Mpimbwe is very attractive with a strong blue colour over most of the fish.
PRINCESS CICHLID (N.Brichardi)
Blue PeacockThis graceful looking cichlid is a very popular aquarium fish, also known by imaginative names such as Princess of Burundi and Fairy Cichlid. This species has a wide distribution in the lake, face markings and/or body markings can vary in appearance depending on locality. It inhabits rocky areas and forms large breeding colonies, older fry help guard younger siblings. Both sexes grow to about 10cm.
