Native to Bolivia and Brazil, nowadays most stock in the aquarium trade is commercially farmed. The Bolivian Butterfly grows to about 8cm, both sexes are very similar in appearance. Most standard aquarium foods are eaten, but they also appreciate regular feeds of live or frozen foods. |

They are extremely hardy and breed readily - even when in the presence of much larger fishes. They are very territorial when breeding, so tank mates should be robust or agile species. Males develop longer fins and ripe females may display red, blue or yellow in the dorsal fin and on the abdomen. Native to Central America, males grow to about 12cm, females to 8-10cm. |

![]() | The Red Hump is an unusual looking South American Cichlid native to Colombia. One of several types known as "earth-eaters", these fish feed by sifting the substrate. Their aquarium should have good filtration because of their constant foraging, but otherwise they are easy to keep and are relatively peaceful. A hardy fish suitable for the Cichlid beginner, Red Humps grow to 12-15cm. |

![]() | Red Devils are an extremely robust species, native to Nicaragua. Highly responsive to their owners, very large specimens are often kept as a single pet fish. Adult colouration begins at 6-10cm, and each individual can vary considerably. They can be extremely aggressive (particularly solitary individuals), but can also be readily kept in very large aquaria with other large American Cichlids, provide plenty of hiding places. Males grow to 25-30cm, females are usually smaller. |

![]() | Rams are very popular community fish, with their bright colours and peaceful disposition. They are best kept in a planted aquarium with species such as tetras and Angels. The larger growing males grow to 5-6cm, ripe females display a purple abdomen. Rams (Ramirezi) are native to Venezuela and Colombia. |
| RIVULATUS GOLD SAUM | |
![]() | Native to Ecuador and Peru, adult Rivulatus are very impressive fish with green edged scales, and nicely patterned dorsal and tail fins with a wide gold edging. Hardy and easy to keep, they can be territorial, particularly when breeding. One of the more popular larger American Cichlids, they can be kept with hardy species of similar size in large aquaria. Males can grow to 18-20cm, females remain smaller. They start to colour up from 5cm onwards. |

![]() | The Severum is a popular large Cichlid with a quiet, peaceful disposition. Both sexes at first are very similar in appearance, mature males gradually developing scribbled markings over the head and brighter colour. They prefer vegetable based/green foods and enjoy treats such as lettuce leaves. Native to northern South America, they can grow to 15-20cm. |
