| BUMBLE BEE GOBY | |
|---|---|
![]() | Bumble Bee Gobies are an aptly named fish native to brackish and fresh waters of South-east Asia. Bumble Bees do well in hard alkaline water, and appreciate some salt added to the aquarium (e.g. 1 teaspoon/10 litres). They prefer live foods, blackworms in particular and are a good community fish, occupying the lower areas of the aquarium. Maximum size is about 4cm. |
| BUTTERFLY FISH - PANTADON | |
![]() | The Butterfly Fish is a bizarre looking oddball that lies in wait just below the water surface for food items such as fallen insects. Very difficult to breed, most aquarium stock is wild caught from West Africa. It makes a good aquarium fish, readily eating most floating foods and is not particularly fussy about water conditions. Both sexes are very similar except the male has a slightly convex anal fin. They grow to about 10cm. Like most surface dwellers, they are good jumpers. |
| HALF BEAK | |
![]() | The Half Beak is a slender livebearer that grows to 6-7cm and is native to south-east Asia. A surface dweller, most aquarium foods are eaten, but floating foods are best. They prefer slightly alkaline water that is not soft, where necessary add conditioning salts to their water - particularly in soft water areas. Best kept in small group with similar sized peaceful species. |
| GOLD HALF BEAK | |
![]() | The Half Beak is a slender livebearer that grows to 6-7cm and is native to south-east Asia. A surface dweller, most aquarium foods are eaten, but floating foods are best. They prefer slightly alkaline water that is not soft, where necessary add conditioning salts to their water - particularly in soft water areas. Best kept in small group with similar sized peaceful species. The gold form is an aquarium strain that looks as if it has been dipped in gold dust. |
| BLACK GHOST KNIFE FISH | |
![]() | Black Ghost Knife Fish are one of the most interesting freshwater aquarium fish with their unique behaviour and swimming pattern. Quite suitable for community aquaria, they prefer having several cave-like hiding places. Water conditions are not critical; a pH about neutral and moderate hardness is fine. Will eat most foods, but they relish live blackworms. |
| SILVER DOLLAR | |
![]() | The Silver Dollar is a great looking aquarium fish with characteristic disc-shaped body and glistening silver colouration. Grows to a massive size of approximately 15cm. Both sexes look similar, mature females have red edged anal fins, whereas males have clear slightly ragged looking anal fins. |
| LAND HERMIT CRABS | |
![]() | Available in Medium and Small size. Very popular as an alternative pet, land hermit crabs are native to the coastlines of Northern Australia. They forage above the high tide zone, regularly returning to the tidal zones. Best kept in a group in a covered empty aquarium, with a thin layer of clean dry sand and decorations such as driftwood. Various products such as hermit crab food and salt are also available to help make it very easy to care for these pets. |
| GOLD MYSTERY SNAIL | |
![]() | The Gold Mystery Snail is an excellent scavenger for the heated aquarium, efficient and also a striking gold colour. These are hardy snails, but do not keep them with fish such as large Cichlids, as the latter often prey on snails, even large ones. Ensure the aquarium is well covered - Mystery Snails lay their egg clusters above the water surface and occasionally climb out! Upon hatching, the young snails drop back into the water, perfect miniatures of the adult snails. |
